Fly away Peter, Fly away Paul!

Teamwork, discipline and fitness (both mental and physical) are high on Permoseal’s list of values – and the proof was in the pudding when 38 year old Paul Jacobs (Lab Manager for Permoseal managing tech service, QA and R&D lab functions) and his partner, 58 year old Peter Barber (ex-MD of Fine Chemicals) recently won the tandem section of the Cape Argus Cycle Tour.

Many hours of training up Suikerbossie and Chapmanspeak on the back of a busy road season saw this team cross the finish line first – despite a crash 20km into the race and the fact that this was only their second tandem race together. There was quite a strong head wind blowing throughout the course, but Paul insists the race was hard, but fun!

“We made our break through Fish Hoek and were joined by one other tandem, friends of ours actually, whom we worked well with until they tired and we dropped them on the climb up Chapmanspeak 25 km from the finish line. By Suikerbossie our lead was down to 1 minute but there was some fun inspiration on the side of the road from an ex work colleague supporting us in style with these fun aprons! By the time we reached Campsbay, with 5km to go, we had a narrow lead of 20 seconds from the chasing group … we dug deep into the reserves in the last four km’s but luck was on our side and we scraped home first by the skin of our teeth!”

Congratulations to Permoseal’s Paul and Peter!
